Hydraulics & Coastal Engineering

Boğaziçi University Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory was founded by Dr. Osman Börekçi in 1990 at the Engineering Building. In 1997 and 2017, it has been modernized with state of the art equipment. Today, the laboratory is mainly used for undergraduate teaching and graduate research. The Coastal Engineering Laboratory (coastal.boun.edu.tr) was founded by Dr. Osman Börekçi and Dr. Emre Otay in Kilyos Campus in 1999. Our goal is to develop sustainable engineering solutions for the coastal environment. We train students with engineering skills including design, planning and management of the coasts. Graduate Students have a chance to work on environmental fluid mechanics, sediment and contaminant transport, numerical modeling, stochastic processes, port and harbour engineering and coastal structures. Our projects include research in wind, wave and ocean energy, maritime traffic monitoring, risk analysis, tsunami propagation, meshless methods for numerical modeling of waves and currents, smart breakwaters, oil spill modeling, marine dredging, beach nourishment, seawater air-conditioning and renewable energy supported desalination.
